Overview

The recent past has been characterized by the Internet of Things (IoT), leading to broadening and diversifying the demand for electronics and communication engineering graduates. The IoT, is the network of physical objects or “thing” embedded with electronics, software sensors and network connectivity, which enables these objects to collect and exchange the data. There has been an increase in both private and public sector with increased investment in electronics and communication technologies, and this has led to the creation of new jobs that require specialized graduates. In order to satisfy this demand, the Department of Computing and Technology has developed a curriculum that offers students a unique opportunity to stay updated with all the latest in this field of electronics and communication engineering. This will offer students better working opportunities once graduated. The BSc. in Electronics and Communication Engineering is a four-year program aimed at equipping students with skill in electronics and communication technology.

The program offers the degree of Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Electronics and Communications Engineering. The candidate for the (BSc) degree is required to pursue scholastic quality and complete a plan of study prepared by the Department of Computing and Technology and approved by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education. The number of credit units required for graduation is 206 spreading over 8 academic semesters.

Aim

The programme aims at producing Electronics and Communications Engineers and professionals who will be able to critically analyze and provide solutions to complex engineering problems.

Outcomes

  1. Design and synthesize electronic and communication products, systems, and processes, and demonstrate an innovative approach to design realization.
  2. Evaluate a range of solutions to engineering problems, drawn from a broad-based knowledge of electronics, communications and cognate engineering disciplines.
  3. Select and apply appropriate mathematical methods to solve problems in the analysis and synthesis of electronics and communications engineering systems.
  4. Contribute to teamwork effectively and ethically, addressing the prominent engineering, social, environmental, and commercial issues.
